Short Holidays

We began in 2003 with activity based days for a fortnight at the beginning of the summer holiday.  Activities were organised after consultation with the group.  Over the next few years we enjoyed visits to the cinema, bowling, boat trips, seaside, sea life centres, cooking our own lunch, arts and crafts, football fun days, etc.

On one visit to Butlins for a day trip one question started a chain of events that changed the way we ran, ‘Can I stay here?’ That simple question by one of Conquerors longest serving members Emma started a chain of events.  In the summer of 2005 we enjoyed 4 days of activities followed by 4 nights at Butlins with a group of 8 members. The trip was a great success and was closely followed by a trip the following year to the Isle-of-Wight where we were all fortunate enough to ‘fly without wings’ – we went to see Westlife perform at Osbourne House. Obviously a huge hit with all of the group – including the leaders!

We visited the Isle-of-Wight for one more year before we found a new destination – Hayling Island. This opened up a new range of opportunities, shopping at Gunwharf Quays, boat trips around the harbour and a new site to explore.

We felt ready to take on an extra challenge – 2 holidays catering for between 14 and 18 young people.  This gave the opportunity for some new members to join.  We spent a lovely week at Whitecliff Bay in the Isle-of-Wight revisiting a favourite camp site and a week at Butlins, Bognor which has always been a firm favourite.

Our holidays have continued to develop as different members with new ideas join our group, this has included staying in a youth hostel as well as camping, with plans in place for activity weekends and canal trips.

Who would have thought a conversation in 2003 would have developed into 18 years of fun filled activities and holidays with lots of wonderful memories.
